Musical Theater/Choir
This performance-based class introduces students to the exciting world of musical theatre while building confidence, creativity, and stage skills. Students learn the audition process, including how to select and perform monologues and songs, prepare for auditions, and present themselves professionally. Throughout the course, students develop strong memorization techniques, practice scene work, and explore how actors make thoughtful character choices by analyzing scripts and motivations.
Students strengthen their vocal abilities through both solo and group singing while also learning choreography and stage movement used in musical theatre productions. The class incorporates improvisation games to encourage creativity, quick thinking, and collaboration among performers.
In addition to performance skills, students gain an understanding of the behind-the-scenes elements that bring a production to life. Lessons include script writing, theatrical makeup, costuming, and how these elements support storytelling on stage.
Participation in the school musical is a required component of the class each semester it is taken, giving students the opportunity to apply what they learn in a full theatrical production. This course is ideal for students who enjoy performing, working as a team, and bringing stories to life on stage.
