Josh Karchinski, New Boy's Basketball Coach

A new era is underway for Muskegon Catholic Central boys basketball as Joshua Kutchinski has been named the program’s next head coach, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the Michigan basketball landscape.

Kutchinski, a Baldwin native, has built an extensive coaching résumé across both the high school and collegiate levels. His career includes stops at Jackson College, where he served as head coach, as well as Mesa Community College and Lake Superior State, where he contributed to successful programs and player development efforts.

His familiarity with West Michigan adds another layer to the hire. Kutchinski previously spent time in the area as an assistant at Muskegon High School, giving him insight into the local basketball culture and competition.

At the high school level, Kutchinski has already demonstrated his ability to build winning programs. During his tenure at Holton High School, he turned the program around and he led the program to its first district championship in nearly 50 years—a testament to his ability to develop talent and instill a winning mindset.

Now at Muskegon Catholic Central, Kutchinski steps into a program with tradition and potential. His coaching philosophy emphasizes discipline, defensive intensity, and player development—traits that could quickly reshape the Crusaders’ identity on the court.

“I want to thank Jerry McDowell, Ron Gates and the board for this opportunity! For me to jump back in to coaching at the high school level it had to be the right situation and this felt like home! I’m very excited and we have a ton of work to do!” Kutchinski said.

“Muskegon Catholic has a ton of history and tradition we won’t take that lightly, we will get back to blue collar type of worker on and off the court to rebuild this program!” he added.

Beyond X’s and O’s, Kutchinski is known for focusing on the growth of his players both athletically and academically, preparing them for opportunities beyond high school basketball.

With his experience, local ties, and track record of success, Kutchinski’s arrival signals a strong commitment by Muskegon Catholic Central to elevate its boys basketball program. As the season approaches, all eyes will be on how quickly the Crusaders adapt under their new leadership—and how far Kutchinski can take them in the competitive West Michigan basketball scene.
